Go Back & Get It

"GO BACK & GET IT" is a captivating solo documentary project that unfolds against the vibrant backdrop of Nigeria, where it was expertly filmed within the span of just five days. This immersive documentary, with a runtime of 49 minutes, embarks on a deeply personal narrative, tracing my journey to Lagos, Nigeria, in pursuit of a profound familial connection. At the heart of this cinematic odyssey lies the enigmatic story of my great-grandmother, Mam Bucaud, the last African in our family. A Yoruba woman, she carried with her a cherished tradition: the Nation Dance, a cultural legacy she once performed in Trinidad for her family. This film chronicles my pilgrimage to unearth the roots of this mesmerizing dance and the untold stories it carries.During my travels, I had the privilege of engaging in enlightening conversations with influential, well-known, and renowned creatives, including luminaries such as Femi Lasode, Lemi Ghariokwu, and Shola Duro-Ladipo. Their insights add depth to the narrative, shedding light on the cultural tapestry of the region.Beyond the documentary itself, this multifaceted campaign extends its creative reach, encompassing the artistry of street and portrait photography, meticulous print design work (including a captivating movie poster), a crowdfunding campaign, and an engaging movie trailer. "GO BACK & GET IT" is a rich tapestry of culture, heritage, and artistry, inviting viewers to embark on a heartfelt journey of discovery and connection.
